Happy 4th! And Green Onions too!

Happy 4th! 'Round these parts, that means the beaches will be packed with families, couples, lone sun worshippers and fishermen trying to catch a fish or two. Firework displays will begin around 9pm. And in between, the smell of grilling and barbecue will fill the air.

I'm not sure if we will venture out into the heat this year as hubby had to be taken to the emergency room last Thursday suffering from a TIA. He's been resting a lot since then. I will be happy to spend the day with him and the kids (if they are around) and flitting from one project to the next. I know there's some figs that need picking and pears that need plucking. I might just pull out my countertop grill, throw some burgers, hot dogs and sausage links on there & call it good!

Here's a little experiment I tried and am surprised at the results:

The last time I had a bunch of green onions (from the grocery store) I was cutting up, I decided to save the lower 1/2 to 1 inch of the whites that had a fair amount of roots growing and stuck them in my strawberry pot, watered them daily & soon, they began sprouting more green onions! These will come in handy as I snip off what I need for meals until my green onion seeds do their thing.

Have a safe, sparkly Fourth!~TJ

Estate Sale Lamp

A couple of weekends ago, hubby & I happened upon an estate sale. We wandered through the home, looking around to see if there was anything that caught our eye. This lamp, sitting quietly lit in the  corner of the den, kept calling my name. I noticed it as soon as I walked into the home.
It's golden glow. It's tiny little panes. I admired it but we left without it.
That day.

hubbys orchid & plant corner is our lamp's new home
The very next day, hubby went back and got it. And everything was marked half off! I think he ended up paying around $30 for it. When he got it home he noticed a crack in the piece that cradles the lamp shade (?~I'm not sure if that's what you'd call the stained glassy looking part that covers the light bulb.) I don't care. I love that lamp

And there's always Gorilla glue.

Sum-sum-summertime!

It's summertime! I'm honestly not a big fan of the heat~it's been at least 104 degrees one day that I know of. Personally, I don't really want to know how hot it is because, combine that with our humidity, and it ain't a pretty picture. Frizzy hair, shiny face, sweaty as soon as you towel off from your bath or shower...icky I say.

But all that aside, I try to make the best of it. I try to focus on the good, and not the heat, of summer. I partake in the summery delights that this season abounds with. Icy cold, juice dripping from your chin, watermelon. Our pear and fig trees heavy with fruit just waiting to be plucked. Chilly glasses of Sauvignon blanc and rose' enjoyed as the sun sets over the horizon. Sizzling food, grilled to perfection in a joint effort by hubby & me. Iced tea, sea breezes, graduations, birthdays...all the wonderful things of summer. Because I know, soon enough, it will be Autumn, my favorite time of year. And to get to that, I have to endure go through summer. Kind of like life's challenges.

And it's not so bad, if I focus on the good.

How do you enjoy your summer?
